Das Buch geht darum, wie Bildung im Sinne von Bildung für nachhaltige Entwicklung (BNE) grundlegend weiterentwickelt und verändert werden kann. Es zeigt, dass Schulen unter Druck stehen (z. B. Lehrkräftemangel, Leistungsprobleme), diese Situation aber auch als Chance für neue Lern- und Unterrichtsformen genutzt werden kann. Im Mittelpunkt steht die Idee, dass Schüler*innen stärker Kompetenzen wie Selbstständigkeit, Zusammenarbeit und Verantwortungsfähigkeit entwickeln sollen, um zukünftige gesellschaftliche Herausforderungen bewältigen zu können.

What is the resource about? (in English)

The book is about how education, in the sense of Education for Sustainable Development (ESD), can be fundamentally further developed and transformed. It shows that schools are under pressure (e.g. teacher shortages, performance issues), but that this situation can also be used as an opportunity for new forms of learning and teaching. The central idea is that students should increasingly develop skills such as independence, collaboration, and responsibility in order to address future societal challenges.

Why is the resource useful for VET actors?

Für die Berufsbildung ist das relevant, weil auch dort ein Wandel hin zu mehr Kompetenzorientierung und praxisnahen Lernformen nötig ist – ähnlich wie im Buch für Schulen beschrieben. Auszubildende sollen nicht nur Fachwissen lernen, sondern auch Fähigkeiten wie Eigenverantwortung, Zusammenarbeit, Problemlösen und Nachhaltigkeitskompetenz entwickeln, die in einer sich verändernden Arbeitswelt wichtig sind. Außerdem zeigt der Ansatz von BNE, dass berufliche Bildung stärker auf gesellschaftliche Herausforderungen wie Klimawandel, Digitalisierung und soziale Verantwortung reagieren muss. Das unterstützt Betriebe und Bildungseinrichtungen dabei, Lernprozesse zukunftsorientiert zu gestalten und junge Menschen besser auf komplexe Arbeits- und Lebensrealitäten vorzubereiten.

Why is the resource useful for VET actors? (in English)

For vocational education and training, this is relevant because it supports a shift toward more competence-based and practice-oriented learning, similar to what the book describes for schools. Apprentices should not only gain technical knowledge but also develop skills such as responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving, and sustainability competence, which are essential in a changing world of work. In addition, the BNE approach shows that vocational education needs to respond more strongly to societal challenges such as climate change, digitalisation, and social responsibility. This helps training providers and companies design learning processes that are future-oriented and better prepare young people for complex work and life situations.
