What is the resource about?
ENERGY@SCHOOL was an EU-funded Interreg Central Europe project aimed at increasing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions in school buildings by training staff and students to become Senior and Junior Energy Guardians responsible for smart energy management. It developed strategies, customised management plans, mobile apps, pilot solutions and best practice toolboxes to support energy optimisation and renewable energy use in schools across Central European regions. The project also contributed to behaviour change and increased awareness of energy use within school communities, producing training materials, guidelines and communication tools based on tested pilot actions.

Why is the resource useful for VET actors?
This resource is useful for VET actors because it shows a practical, transnational example of integrating energy efficiency, behaviour change and smart energy management into education, skills that are highly relevant for green jobs and sustainability training in vocational contexts. The concept of Senior and Junior Energy Guardians highlights how learners can take responsibility for monitoring and reducing energy use — connecting technical competences (energy management, monitoring tools) with soft skills (teamwork, awareness, behaviour change). Additionally, the project’s tools, plans and best practice materials offer ready-to-adapt resources that VET educators can use to design energy-focused curricula and project-based modules for fields like building services, renewable technologies, environmental management and sustainable facilities operations.
